Our Story

Our story is our clients' story. Faithfulness, courage, unity of purpose, blessed creativity and trust in a loving God are the foundations of our work. But you don't have to hear it from us. Listen to our clients.

“Leading a congregation to live into God’s mission can be dangerous work and should not be done alone! Our consultant from the Joshua Group has accompanied us on the journey, walking alongside us through all the twists and turns, helping us keep God as the subject of our discernment. Whenever we have started to veer off the road, our consultant has lovingly and graciously reminded us to keep our hands on the steering wheel, fasten our seatbelts, and boldly go in the direction God would have us go. It has not always been a straight road, but it’s definitely been worth the ride!”

-Pastor Greg Busboom, St. John's Lutheran Church, Springfield IL

The Story of Joshua

When Moses reached the border of the Promised Land he sent out scouts ahead to appraise the situation carefully. Joshua was one of those scouts. When he returned, Joshua reported discovering vineyards, orchards, fertile land, and fortified cities. The people didn’t know what to do. Joshua helped them understand their destiny, having faith that God would not have let them come so far only to have them fall just short of their goal. After Moses died Joshua continued to lead the people forward, navigating the new land for the good of God's people. This story is about helping them understand their purpose, provide a plan to get there, and to gather the leadership and resources needed along the way. That is what we do too.

The Joshua Group was born in 2014 out of an urgent need of churches and ministries alike for clarity of purpose, alignment of leadership, and organizational health and vitality.  Since then, we have engaged many, many congregations and a wide variety of camps, educational institutions, judicatories, social services, and other ministries in meaningful experiences of missional transformation.
